🚨 Electric Scooter Safety Reminder
With summer in full swing, Palomar has seen an increased use of electric scooters throughout the neighborhood. We kindly ask all parents to speak with their children about riding scooters safely and responsibly.
Please remind them of the following important rules:
-
No riding on Palomar Sidewalks or walking trails!
-
Stay alert – especially near intersections and driveways
-
Yield to pedestrians and follow all neighborhood traffic rules.
-
Avoid riding in the middle of the road or at high speeds.
-
Only one rider per scooter
-
Always ride single file
-
Most importantly – wear a helmet!
LFUCG / Kentucky Law Overview:
-
Riders must be at least 16 years old to operate a low-speed electric scooter on public roadways, bike lanes, or bike paths. (This excludes PHCA sidewalks and walking trails.)
-
Electric bikes and scooters must abide by all ordinances applicable to bicycles, in addition to relevant state and federal laws.
-
Scooters are not permitted on sidewalks, except when crossing at driveways.
-
Violations may be enforced by police and are subject to penalties under local, state, or federal law.
Our goal is to keep everyone—both riders and motorists—safe this summer. Thank you for your cooperation.
